Technical Solutions is seeking a Lead Estimator to join our client’s Power and Industrial Group. Our client is a leading mechanical contractor in the Pittsburgh area. This is a permanent, full-time position.
 
Description:
The Lead Estimator is the primary member of the Pre-Construction Team of the Power & Industrial Group, providing leadership and management of the department by providing a high level of technical experience, personnel management skills and maturity. The Lead Estimator is responsible for the oversight of the estimating, proposal and budgeting processes for all projects bid and awarded. This role will also manage and coordinate people, manage software and other resources in order to share information, ensure streamlined processes and achieve our client's business plans.
 
Major Activities:
*Perform estimating duties from time of project’s introduction to beginning of construction
*Take responsibility for all preconstruction correspondence with all involved parties, including bid invitations, requests for information, addenda, and scope of work clarification
*Establish complete understanding of project scope of work related to the request for proposal
*Create comprehensive estimates with detailed line items appropriate for the scope of work of each project
*Solicit accurate pricing from qualified subcontractors/vendors/suppliers to ensure competitive coverage of each line item in the estimate
*Organize project site visits if necessary, to define scope and familiarity with the project. *Define/confirm scope of work for each subcontractor/vendor/supplier and produce certified written scope sheets
*Submit proposals in a professional and timely manner
*Generate new sales directly with Owner’s and General Contractors
*Assigns day-to-day responsibilities for preconstruction to employees
*Utilize Trimble Accubid Enterprise Software
*Assist in the management of customer relationships including participation in negotiations, contract development, and maintaining regular customer contact through telephone contacts, visits and events. Champions customer service from RFP/RFQ to project close-out, to ensure that the customer’s expectations have been met or exceeded
*Engage in networking, industry activities, keeping abreast of emerging technologies, construction techniques, new equipment, materials, tools and new potential suppliers of goods or services
*Responsible for the transition efforts required to “turn over” awarded projects from the Pre-Construction Team to the Project Teams. This includes assisting in developing project budgets, pre-job safety hazard analysis, quality requirements, labor requirements, staffing requirements, planning and scheduling requirements, sub-contractor and supplier selection, procurement of specialty items, pre-fabrication plans, and environmental risk management
*Review analysis of past performance on projects and establish or revise estimating standards, or future, similar estimates based on such analysis, and assist in developing & maintenance of a historical cost database. This will include participation with the project team on review of the project / estimate upon completion of the project
*Mentor and train estimators and take off personnel

 
Job Requirements

 

Requirements:
*Track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously
*Estimating software experience, Trimble Accubid Enterprise Software preferably.
*Proficiency with Word and Excel
*People Management experience is a plus
*Ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural and mechanical plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals and other documents as they relate to work.
*Understanding of industrial pipe system components, welding technologies and quality assurance methods
*An Associate Degree or relevant work experience will be considered
*A minimum of three (3) + years estimating experience or three (3)+ years of welding /fitting /installation experience
