Technical Solutions is seeking a Senior Estimator for our client, a full-service steel solution company located in southwestern PA. They specialize in the production of inland river barges, and the fabrication of heavy structural steel components such as bridges, buildings, and hydraulic structures. The Senior Estimator is the primary member of the Pre-Construction Team of the Structural Division, providing leadership and management of the department by providing a high level of technical experience, personnel management skills and maturity. The Senior Estimator is responsible for the oversight of the estimating, proposal and budgeting processes for all projects bid and awarded. This position is responsible for establishing standardized procedures, methods, and processes. This role will also manage and coordinate people, manage software and other resources to share information, ensure streamlined processes and achieve the company mission.
*Perform estimating duties from time of project’s introduction to beginning of fabrication, including the following:
*Organize/update/submit prequalification data as required
*Create/maintain organized estimate files and turnover packages
*Take responsibility for all preconstruction correspondence with all involved parties, including bid invitations, requests for information, addenda, scope of work clarification, and estimate through contract negotiation.
*Develop a complete understanding of project scope of work related to the request for proposal.
*Develop comprehensive estimates with detailed line items appropriate for the scope of work for each project, review and incorporate technical specifications into bid package.
*Obtain accurate and competitive pricing from qualified subcontractors/vendors/suppliers.
*Organize project site visits, if necessary, to define scope and familiarity with the project.
*Submit bid packages in a professional and timely manner.
*Support fabrication activities after turnover of estimate to the project team (as necessary).
*Assist in purchases of materials and awards of subcontractors.
*Utilize company ERP software and be familiar with Tekla and/or Inventor design packages.
*Responsible for the transition efforts required to “kick-off” awarded projects from the pre-construction team to the project teams.
*Review completed project costs to establish or revise estimating standards for future bid packages.
*Develop and maintain historical cost database.
*Lead, mentor, and assign day-to-day responsibilities for estimating employees.
*Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or related practical experience.
*Minimum of three (3) years’ estimating experience in the field of heavy steel fabrication. Preference given to experience in Highway/Bridge construction/erection industry.
*Experience in welding/fitting field processes, steel detailing standards and knowledge of AWS and NDT inspection requirements.
*Proficient with Outlook, Excel and Word and ERP management environment.
*Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents including drawings, specifications, scope of work, and project schedule.
*Strong written, communication and problem-solving skills.
*Strong leadership and management skills.
