Technical Solutions is seeking a Senior Renewable Energy Engineer for our client, a well-known engineering consultant. The Senior Renewable Energy Engineer will be responsible for supporting bioenergy / biofuels waste to energy pursuits and projects. This position reports through our client’s Pittsburgh, PA office. The focus of this position will be on commercial/industrial client programs in the U.S. and Canada, but may also include support related to our Federal, State and Local programs and international projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
*Lead development and implementation of on-going and new projects focused on biogas, bioenergy, biofuels, waste to energy, and biomass energy and fuel generation.
*Support and/or lead all aspects of our bioenergy / waste to energy program. These include resource/feedstock assessment, project due diligence, feasibility studies, innovative technology evaluation/implementation, financial analysis, site identification/planning, policy evaluation, permitting, design, construction, and support operations.
*Utilization of process, mechanical, chemical engineering, design, and operation skills to lead the technical aspects of energy and/or water/sludge/material treatment system projects. Duties may include lead engineering of processes such as MSW handling/sorting, industrial water treatment, nutrient treatment/removal, biogas processing, and compression.
*Conduct visual and verbal presentations to internal and external clients focused on report conclusions (analyses summary, conclusions, and recommendations) and training others.
*Utilize expertise (technical, logistical, regulatory, and finance) to assess project value. Utilize conventional approaches to present innovative cost saving solutions to clients. Work with and build relationships with public, commercial, or international customers by managing and executing tasks and delivering high quality client products and services. Use familiarity with existing clients, clean energy developers, other consultants, and investors to identify new clients and business opportunities and execute them.
*Support project and business development activities, proposal generation, market assessments, and strategic planning on an as-requested basis by management. This may include client and potential client visits in technical support of marketing and business development efforts.
Desired qualifications for the position include:
*Minimum of ten (10) + years of experience with directing, managing, technical direction, and implementing clean renewable energy solutions (generation of heat, power, and/or fuel) with a specific focus on biogas, bioenergy, biofuels, waste to energy [e.g., municipal solid waste (MSW), food, agricultural, forestry and/or other residues] and biomass (e.g., agricultural, forestry and other woody materials). Biogas specifically includes landfill gas, anaerobic digestion, biogas cleanup, and renewable natural gas (RNG) generation and thermochemical conversion (i.e., gasification, pyrolysis, etc.) technologies into producing syngas, renewable oils or other types of energy.
*Experience in identification and spearheading the development and implementation of energy efficiency (i.e., optimization and/or minimization of energy usage) projects.
*Previous experience serving in a management and/or technical role with industry in corporate and/or commercial facilities.
*Experience with both U.S. and international projects.
*Periodic travel to project sites for meetings, audits, or other activities may be required.
Education & Experience:
*B.S. Degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical disciplines preferred)
*Ten (10) to twenty-five (25) + years of experience in energy generation for industry.
*A minimum of ten (10) + years consulting experience in renewable or clean energy and a minimum of five (5) + years in bioenergy/biofuels/gas processing/waste to energy is strongly preferred.
*The ideal candidate will have direct industry experience with bioenergy/waste to energy and specifically material handling and conversion of organic materials via various types of anaerobic digestion and utilization of biogas to generate heat, power, and/or fuel.
*Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental requirements.
*A P.E. or similar certification is strongly preferred.

*Highly competent in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
