Technical Solutions Inc. is currently seeking a Planning Manager on behalf of our client, a Pittsburgh based Mechanical Contractor. The Planning Manager is responsible for monitoring all Planning department activities, schedule and staff. This position maintains optimal efficiency in all department activities including modeling, spooling, camming and production of shop drawings. It will also Interface with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen for all planning requirements.
Major Activities:
  • Oversee all trade planners, sheet metal, plumbing and piping
  • Provide leadership, training and problem resolution for all planners 
  • Assign all work to various planners
  • Develop and maintain all trade modeling standards
  • Develop and maintain all trade construction standards
  • Oversee the standardization of all drawings for all trades and approve any deviations
  • Oversee computer and software maintenance
  • Interact with Project Managers and Trade Supervisors with projections of planning hours
  • Assist Estimating department with planning estimates
  • Responsible for meeting project planning schedules
  • Attend, coordinate and conduct kick-off, operations, planning and turnover meetings
  • Participate in and execute pre-fabrication plans
  • Develop and carry out BIM Execution Plans
  • Receive 3D Models from architects, engineers and associate trades for use on projects
  • Work with contractors and subcontractors to achieve coordination of all trades 
  • Interact with Project Managers both written and verbally regarding project related issues
  • Coordinate all new job requests for planning and develop strategies with the project team
  • Oversee the maintenance of Procore as it relates to planning department activities
  • Oversee submittal reviews
  • Oversee RFI correspondence and coordination
  • Oversee creation of Bills of Material
  • Manage Trimble Total Station inventory and deployment

Job Requirements


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficient in the following software Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong leadership, relationship management, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of MEP Systems and basic construction process and procedures
Education Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in relevant field 
  • Five (5) years' experience working in Architecture, Engineering, General Contracting or MEP Contracting is preferred.
