Technical Solutions Inc. is currently seeking a Sr. Power Systems Engineer for our client, a leading provider of consulting, engineering, program management, construction management and technical services worldwide.
Summary:
The Sr. Power Systems Engineer will lead and perform the design and engineering of commercial and utility scale solar PV systems in compliance with NEC, Solar PV Technology, Fire Code and Building Code; Develop permit sets, construction documents & utility interconnection applications and Power System Operations; Performing Power Systems Studies and Simulations; Coordinate activities in Project Management among clients, utilities, permit agencies, contractors and other engineering firms.; Contribute to and write technical reports/papers; Develop detailed equipment specifications; Perform battery energy storage system designing (BESS) and Integration with solar system engineering.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day efforts of the engineering design department and set and maintain department priorities and task completion timelines.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform complete PV system electrical designs, drawings, studies, and other deliverables.
- Coordinate the work of outside engineering consultants for drafting and/or sealing of electrical and other designs, including scope preparation, solicitation of proposals, scheduling of field work and investigations (as applicable) and management of deliverable completion timelines.
- Review internal and external design documents and provide feedback on concept and code compliance, adherence to contract requirements, constructability, cost optimization and other factors for a complete and accurate design package.
- Manage the submittal, review and approval process for of all required electrical design and project engineering as required.
- Coordinate and prepare system performance models and tests using PVsyst and other production modeling software.
- Provide support to other teams, including the preparation of bills of material, evaluation of product technical data, and processing of RFI's and other design change inquiries.
- Coordinate and provide engineering support to business development and sale teams as required.

Job Requirements
Required Skills:
- PE License or ability to obtain in one (1) year.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum ten (10) years of demonstrated experience in electrical design, including a minimum of five (5) years of PV system design.
- Minimum two (2) years of demonstrated experience managing a team of design or other engineering professionals.
- Proficient in computer simulation of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation system
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, PVSyst, ETAP, and SKM
- Working knowledge of the NEC, IEEE, IEC, and UL requirements relevant to solar PV systems.
- Thorough understanding of PV design principles.
- Must be an effective communicator and leader, with the proven ability to guide teams to success in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Preferred MSC or PhD in Power Systems
- Knowledge of construction processes and practices including electrical, structural, and mechanical
- Able to manage multiple project efforts, prioritizing tasks and resources
- Experience with cost/benefit analysis
- Experience with medium and high voltage systems
